Ayurveda Centres

We have a number of different Ayurvedic resorts in Kerala which offer serious Ayurvedic treatments. Most holidays consist in a detox, slimming and massage program with some optional tours. They all offer yoga, and various forms of exercise as well as more in-depth treatments.

Ayurveda is the traditional Medical science of India. Its numerous principles stem from its knowledge ('Veda') of life (Ayur). The science has been handed down over many centuries. The oldest surviving text book of Ayurvedic medicine is the Charka-Samhita, a collection of the works of Charka, personal physician of the Indian King Kanishka (78-101 A.D.).

Ayurveda?
For many westerners, Ayurveda is an 'alternative' form of medicine, but as wrote Marcia Angell & Jerome Kassirer in their famous 1998 editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine: "There cannot be two kinds of medicines - conventional and alternative. There is only medicine that has been adequately tested and medicine that has not, medicine that works and medicine that may or may not work."

Yoga is the art of living a healthy, balanced, peaceful and contented life. Yoga, being a total integrated system, studies man in his wholeness - body, mind and spirit and is integrated to certain principles, ideas, values, attitudes and a way of life for personal and social benefits.
