Mountains of the Gods
Delhi - Chandigarh - Kalka -
Simla - Manali - Mandi - Taragarh - Dharamsala - Chamba - Jammu - Delhi
The
Himalayas the greatest and one of the youngest mountain ranges on earth. A visit to
the Himalayas for Hindus and Buddhists comes in the form of a pilgrimage and this is the
approach we take to this tour a gentle trip into the mountains visiting some of the most
beautiful areas in the Indian Himalayas.
You
do not have to be a mountaineer to enjoy the Himalayas and this tour is designed to gently
introduce the mountains without undue exertion.
We
start in the capital New Delhi before taking a train to the city of Chandigarh, a unique
city in India as it was designed in the 1960s by Le Courbusier and is of great interest to
those who have an interest in twentieth century architecture.
Shimla
is the quintessence of the British hill station nestled in a charming part of the
Himalayas which at this altitude is very alpine in Character save that the Himachal locals
are both charming and fascinating in this area.
Thence
through some of the most delightful landscapeds in the Himlayas to Manali and Naggar
before descending to Dharamsala the home of the Tibetan government in exile, thence to
Chamba the Holy city of Jammu and back to Delhi.
This is a marvellous
tour to undertake in April - May when the plains are very hot and in the early autumn
after the monsoon. |
