Tailor Made Travel: South
East Asia
LAND OF THE KHMERS
Cambodia
has so much to offer: from the wonders of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, one of the
greatest temple complexes in the region and probably one of the greatest
archaeological parks in the world, to Cambodia's charming capital, Phnom
Penh, sailing on one of the longest and fascinating Asian rivers, the
Mekong.
The
Cambodian people have survived the darkest horrors and political madness
of the Pol-Pot regime. Whoever has travelled the land of the Khmers will
have witnessed both Cambodia's recent past in the very fabric of the
landscape and people's memories, but also the amazing hospitality and
kindness of its people.
Phnom Penh
is a weathered city but it has somehow, and against all odds, managed to
retain the charm of its past French colonial grandeur. The main temples
of Angkor are often crowded with tourists, but the area is huge, and
many temples are not visited by most packaged tours. They may be more
difficult of access than the main temples, or known only to the Khmers
and a few archaeologists, temples, sacred waterfalls where one can dream
about an ancient land in absolute peacefulness. |
